Study Archaeological Techniques at a National Historic Landmark Site, the Pleasant Hill Shaker Village. Transportation provided.
Founded in 1805, the Pleasant Hill community grew to nearly 500 residents by the mid 19th century, becoming one of the most significant and successful Utopian communities.
Today 34 historic structures help tell the story of this fascinating “social experiment.” Yet the Shakers built over 250 structures at Pleasant Hill. Through archaeology we can learn about these other structures,Shaker material cultural and the cultural landscape of Pleasant Hill.
COURSE Learn the fundamentals of archaeological excavation, site interpretation, and artifact classification and cataloging.
ENROLL Register for Anthropology 585, Summer Session I.
ACADEMIC CREDIT 6 credit hours (ANT585 fulfills major core requirements for UK undergraduate Anthropology majors)
