Research

My major research interest is the archaeology of Eastern North America, and in particular the Ohio River Valley. More specifically I have two interests. One is in ceramics; ceramic analysis, ceramic production, and the development and distribution/disbursement of ceramic types. As part of this, I have described a new provisional ceramic type from the Red River Gorge in Powell County, Kentucky. This research has led to my interest into the development and spread of collared and/or rim strip ceramics into Kentucky. Currently, I am concentrating on the Late Woodland Period into the early Late Prehistoric Period. My other interest is in rockshelter utilization in Eastern Kentucky.

I have volunteered for several years with the Kentucky Archaeological Survey from site surveys to excavations while also helping in the lab with everything from artifact washing to analysis to technical reports.
