S. E. Nealis
Doctoral Candidate

My dissertation research focuses on the construction and use of a large earthwork complex in Greenup County, KY and Scioto County, OH known as the Portsmouth Earthworks.  These earthworks were most likely constructed by groups involved in the Hopewell phenomenon, and the goal of my dissertation work is to gain an understanding of the construction sequence and timing of the complex as well as to gauge their relationship with other Hopewell centers further up the Scioto River Valley.
