Bluegrass Annual Discussions on Anthropology and the Social Sciences BADASS 2024: Colonialist Legacies in Anthropology and the Social Sciences

The third annual BADASS conference will consider themes relating to colonialism and its legacies in the social sciences. This topic crosscuts all of the social sciences and includes the more politicized aspects of decolonization and anti-colonialism. Specific topics can include colonial and postcolonial narratives, Indigenous perspectives on ongoing colonial encounters, multi-vocal dialogues of sub-altern stakeholders, strategies for confronting and negotiating the colonial legacy, and methods for disentangling policies through activism.

The conference is open for contributed papers, thematic sessions, and round-table discussions.

The conference will be held on the campus of the University of Kentucky on February 22nd, 2025.  The conference is organized by students from the Anthropology Department; while faculty are welcome to present, the goal is to offer opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students to enter into professional activities, both as presenters and attendees, as well as conference volunteers in a low-pressure environment.

Submit titles and abstracts to Maya Miller (maya.miller@uky.edu) no later than January 31, 2025. The presentations can be online/in-person and registration is free. Click here for more details.
