The Department of Anthropology is devoted to creating a welcoming environment where we advocate for the dignity, value, and fulfillment of all members our community. We work to provide access and justice for all faculty, administrators, staff, and students and we implement initiatives that help ensure their success in an increasingly interconnected world. As anthropologists, we share a commitment to understanding, appreciating, and respecting the full range of intersecting and coexisting human identities and experiences. As a department, we recognize that our community contains and must embrace all categories of culture, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, gender, sexuality, religion, language, age, and abilities. The department of anthropology also recognizes that in the history of our discipline, institution, and commonwealth, specific groups of people have been and continue to be subjected to various form of marginalization and discrimination. We are dedicated to encouraging active dialogue to address and ameliorate these injustices and to create an accessible and nourishing ambiance for all.
