Xavier Smalls
Cultural Anthropology PhD Student

Xavier Smalls is an aspiring cultural and environmental anthropologist whose research foci lie within Black, African, and Africana Anthropology; North American Anthropology; The Interdependence of Social, Economic, and Environmental Injustices; Marginalized and BIPOC communities; Rural Sociology; Culture and Environment; and the impact of Natural Disasters on "Home."

Xavier has had many different experiences and positions related to Cultural Anthropology and Environmental Studies, including: Designing and Measuring Learning Experiences and Museum Education Intern at the Sumner Hall Museum in Chestertown, Maryland; Community Engagement and Oral History Intern with the Black Life at Bellevue Field School in Bellevue, Maryland; Tribal Children's Environmental Health Exposure Research Intern with the Environmental Protection Agency's Offices of International and Tribal Affairs and Children's Health Protection; and Education and Interpretation Intern at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

He is interested in conducting ethnographic fieldwork in rural, Black communities experiencing cultural and environmental injustices within the United States.
