Biography

Stacie Hatfield is currently a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of Kentucky and holds a graduate certificate in gender and women's studies. She also has a bachelors degree in nursing with clinical expertise in emergancy care. 

Research

My dissertation research examines intersections of race and gender in the southern United States and the overlapping, intersecting, and sometimes conflicting social environments that individuals marginalized by gender, race, and/or age experience, create, and move within and between. Whether seeking treatment for sexually transmitted illnesses, navigating school or the labor market, maintaining family connections, or finding places to be with others as themselves, these individuals are uniquely positioned within the social, geospatial and political landscape. While this work focuses on belonging and cultural citizenship, it also explores how notions of place and identity are understood, created, commemorated, and shaped by African American and LGBTQ youth in the context of the post-Civil Rights Movement U.S. South and political movements such as the Gay Rights Movement, same sex marriage legislation, and Black Lives Matter.
